ABOUT US
Patty Jackson was retired from teaching after 20 years, when a friend came to her with the opportunity to share retail space with a used bookstore on Bluff Street. Patty jumped on the opportunity to sell her crocheted blankets that she was currently selling at the Dubuque Farmers Market.
At the same time she was helping her church sell coffee, tea and chocolate, and became intrigued with the philosophy of fair trade. She decided to also incorporate fair trade products into the store. She now has her own retail location, and while she is still selling her crocheted items, her store is now 95% fair trade.
Patty works directly from not-for-profit organizations, such as SERRV, Ten Thousand Villages and Global Crafts. These non-profits have long-term relationships with small organizations and cooperatives of disadvantaged artisans and farmers in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, as well as the US, to purchase their handmade products and food.
